SUPERHEROES COME TO PULAU CAREY
by Ho Cheng Leong -15 January 23
It was fun to watch the Marvel Comics and DC Comics characters come "alive"!
Sorry, not in movie…
Yesterday morning, I went to witness the Sports Day in an Orang Asli community school in Pulau Carey, off Klang (at the least that general direction) as the NGO I am with sponsored part of the sports day's items.
Tucked in the backwater and behind huge tracts of plantation land, I was taken aback and amazed at the creativity arising from the teachers and students from this primary school.
The colour groups are dressed up (make from simple cloth and cardboards material) in different characters taken from DC Comics and Marvel Comics - Hawkman, Captain America and Ironman! The pomp and pageantry put up was a remarkable sight for a small school of 134 kids.
(Compassi Berhad (NGO) sponsored the Teams T-shirts).
Most of all, I was impressed by the creativity and imagination that they have put up.
A quick session with the headmaster at breakfast revealed some of the issues and challenges facing these young children. And may need outside assistance to improve their lifestyle, studies trend and character formations to meet the challenges of 21st century and the real harsh world out there.
I was busy making mental notes and discussing with my team members on how we could possibly engage in the more meaningful manner with long-term impact on this small community of students to improve their lifestyle and lifeskills. A lot of work ahead for the next 3 years…just for this community.
Meanwhile, one cannot take away the credit of their creativity and enthusiasm in "catching" up with the latest from Hollywood! LOL.
The "Superheroes" of SK Sg Judah were the heroes for the day!
