A MULTI-RACIAL CUT .... A CUT ABOVE THE 3Rs

The country has been embroiled to an unhealthy level in the last few months esp during with the run up to the 6 states elections over the issue of "3Rs" (race, religion and royalty).
As Malaysia entered its 66 years of independence from the colonial powers of the past, it would be sad if we fall into another "colonialism" of our own making. Malaysia was founded on a multi-racial and multi-cultural DNA which is uniquely truly Malaysia! And the "3Rs" would threaten to undermine the very basis of foundation of our nation.
Last Friday I attended the opening gathering of a Malay friend who just started a barber shop. And he aspires to make it into a chain shops. Walking into the shop that day, one would straightaway dismiss the embroiled sensitive issues.
Mana ada? Here, different races gathered to lend support to this Malay friend. He has Indian families there, Sarawakians and Chinese as well as Malays friends. It was a gathering of Malaysian friends to lend support of another friend. And of course, the delights of varieties of finger food. And, not to leave out, the simple fellowship of friendship and support. That's all...the Malaysian way! The "3Rs" issue seems like something alien from a faraway galaxy!
He even has an American friend who came to lend support by having a haircut there and then! LOL! And one of the barbers is from Sabah!
Truly a Malaysian potpourri and Malaysian "rojak" (in an endearing term). A unity that is uniquely Malaysia!
This barber shop situated in a Malay majority enclave, but I sincerely hope and pray that gathering like this opening day at the shop is a growing glimpse of what the country should be and be proud of our Malaysian uniqueness…the ability to be inclusive of all people's groups! A unity beacon of hope to our beloved country.
And my wishes to the success of this shop and my Malaysian Malay friend and hope that shop like this will be a beacon of what Malaysia is all about!
